Description

Purpose: First Hand assists individual children with health-related needs when insurance and other financial resources have been exhausted. First Hand strives to change children's lives around the world, one child at a time.

Hours

8 am - 5 pm, Mon - Fri.

Eligibility

1. The child must be 18 years of age or younger, 2. 19-21 years if child-like mental state and under the care of a pediatrician, 3. The case must involve a child with a specific need, 4. The request must be clinically relevant to the health of the child, 5. There must be no existing insurance coverage for the requested expenses, 6. An application for expenses already incurred will not be considered for funding. 7. Family must meet financial guidelines.

Download online application and submit all necessary documentation. Case requests are reviewed the first Wednesday of every month. The deadline for submission is seven days prior.

Description

Cerner Charitable Foundation (formerly First Hand) is building healthier tomorrows and stronger communities around the world through individual medical grants and wellness programs, engaging volunteerism, community initiatives and strategic partnerships. Expenses covered with individual medical grants include: Treatment: Clinical procedures, medicine, therapy, prosthesis, etc. Equipment: Wheelchairs, assistive technology equipment, care devices, hearing aids, etc. Displacement: Lodging (only if charitable housing is unavailable), gas ($0.33 per mile), parking and transportation related to a child’s care. Vehicle modifications: Lifts, ramps and transfer boards.

The child must be 18 years of age or younger (a person 19–21 may be considered if they are in a child-like mental state); The child must be under the care of a pediatrician; The case must involve a child with a specific health care need; The request must be clinically relevant to the health of the child; There must be no existing insurance coverage for the requested expenses; One request per year, per child for a maximum of three times in a child’s lifetime.
