Children First: CEO Kansas Inc. is a 501(c)(3) social service nonprofit organization in Wichita, Kansas, with a mission to support students to feel safe and empowered, so they can learn and thrive, by staying in school and achieving in life. Children 1st empowers student health and success through 1) Brighter Futures, which provides social services support and 2) Garden to Kitchen program provides an applied science curriculum to a fresh food program to teach growing, harvesting, eating, and preserving fresh food with its benefits to low-income students, their families and the neighbors. Children First serves eight neighborhoods and is based in Catholic Schools; however, most of the organization!€™s resources are focused to provide for low-resourced students in four inner-city schools with a high percentage of students living in poverty (ZIP codes 67203, 67214, 67216, and 67217). Children 1st provides a nationally recognized 16 week class to low-resourced parents called Getting Ahead in a Just Gettin!€™ By World to teach about the hidden rules of class (poverty, middle class and wealth) as families develop a pathway out of poverty. Classes are taught in English and Spanish. Sign up for classes through the Children 1st website. Journey Home Resource Center is located in the Atwater Neighborhood Resource Center - for homeless families with at least one child living with parents/guardians, or parents working toward re-unification with their children. It is a point of entry to community resources for homeless families to locate and secure housing.
