Required Documents

Must have Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). If applicable, will need W-2s for each job held in 2017; 1099s showing other income (unemployment, social security, retirement, nonemployee compensation, interest, dividend, investment, etc.); 1098s and other documentation that may be used for claiming deductions (mortgage interest/real estate tax, student loan interest, charitable contributions, medical expenses, IRA contributions, health savings account contributions & distributions, work-related expenses) and credits (education expenses, child care expenses); 1095s or other health care-related documents; bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit of refund; and last year’s tax return (if available).

Eligibility

For free service, must have had a household adjusted gross income of $66,000 or less. Can only do current year taxes; no back taxes. Must have valid email address. Can file for most common income types (W-2, unemployment income, interest, dividend and stock income, rental income or self-employment income AKA Schedule C). The following federal tax situations are not supported: previous year returns; previous year amended returns; Non-Resident Alien Return (1040NR); tax returns for clergy members with housing allowance and unreimbursed expenses; long term care contracts (1099LTC)/Archer MSA; net operating loss carryforward for prior-year loss; foreign investment income; Premium Tax Credit Part IV – allocation of policy amounts.

To file taxes: Visit MyFreeTaxes.com website. Click on orange "Get Started" button to be re-directed to H&R Block Sign-In screen. Create an account on website and follow instructions for filing. Website or filing support is available via phone (Helpline), chat and email (HELPLINE DOES NOT ANSWER GENERAL TAX-RELATED QUESTIONS, ONLY QUESTIONS IN REGARDS TO USING THE SOFTWARE ITSELF.
